Beginning your journey in the largest city in the South Island, Christchurch, after arriving you'll have the remainder of the day to explore the city (talk to our specialists about additional experiences you could book!) The second day, you'll depart Christchurch, travelling through the Canterbury Plains, through Lake Tekapo, continuing on through the Southern Alps to Aoraki Mt Cook National Park, home to New Zealand's tallest mountain. Here, you'll have free time to explore; consider booking a scenic flight (at additional cost) to better experience the stunning alpine and glacier scenery. After, continue on to Queenstown via the Lindis Pass. Queenstown will be your home for the night, and day 3 will be free for you to enjoy all that the adventure capital of the world has to offer. Consider partaking in adrenaline activities, or something a bit more leisurely, Queenstown has got it all. The morning of day 4 sees you departing Queenstown aboard a luxury coach, travelling along Lake Wakatipu, through Te Anau, and along the famous Milford Road to Milford Sound. Here, you'll embark on a cruise through the sound, full of gushing waterfalls, sky-high peaks, lush rainforest, and playful wildlife, before eventually travelling back to Queenstown for the evening. The next morning, disembark from Queenstown again, and travel by luxury coach through the stunning scenery of the South Island, includes Lakes Dunstan, Wanaka, and Hawea, Makarora, the Haast Pass, before eventually emerging on the wild, ruggedly beautiful West Coast. Arriving in the small village of Franz Josef, you'll have the afternoon to explore the world famous Franz Josef Glacier. The following morning, you'll travel by coach north along the West Coast to Greymouth, from which you will board the TranzAlpine Train for an unforgettable experience, considered one of the world's great train journeys. View the stunning landscape and scenery of the Southern Alps, including Arthurs Pass, before arriving in Christchurch for the final evening of your trip. On the next morning, a transfer from your accommodation to the airport finishes your journey!

Experience the grand architecture, beautiful gardens and scenic viewpoints on a half-day city tour of Christchurch.
The tour commences in the central city of Christchurch and covers the area which was completely devastated by the Christchurch earthquakes in February 2011. The guide will explain both the history of the city and the effects of the earthquake. On leaving the inner city, the tour travels to Mona Vale a historic homestead and gardens. Then you will travel to the Sign of the Takahe, a historic building with a lookout providing spectacular views over the city, Canterbury Plains and to the Southern Alps. The tour then travels via the Port Hills and Lyttleton Harbour by way of the Sign of the Kiwi and Governors Bay to the Port of Lyttleton. The tour proceeds through the Lyttleton harbour tunnel to the seaside suburb of Sumner and cave rock before returning to the central city where the tour will conclude.

You will be met at your accommodation by a representative from Glacier Shuttles and taken on a short tour to view the glacier. Your shuttle vehicle will transfer you up the Franz Josef valley to the road end. Here you will have the opportunity to walk to view the glacier from a viewing platform. Or enjoy one of the short walks available in this area. You will be returned to your accommodation by the Glacier Valley Shuttles.

Continue through the township of Ross, which in the late 1800s was the centre of one of New Zealand's richest alluvial goldfields. In 1903 the largest gold nugget ever found in New Zealand was discovered at Jones Creek, not far from the town centre. It weighed 2807 grams. The New Zealand Government later purchased the nugget and presented it as a coronation gift to King George V. On arrival in Hokitika there is time to purchase lunch and explore the town centre. Hokitika is the administrative and commercial centre for this part of Westland. The major primary industry is timber milling. Dairy and sheep farming, commercial fishing, white baiting and eel processing being the other major industries. Continue onto Greymouth Railway Station from where you catch the world famous TranzAlpine train across the Southern Alps to Christchurch.
