Rotorua

Kiwis call it 'Roto-Vegas' because of the endless entertainment options - thermal pools, volcanic valleys, trout fishing, nature walks, farm shows...

Rotorua - a geothermal wonderland of steaming lakes, boiling mud, roaring geysers and beautiful scenery should not be missed by any visitor to New Zealand.  It is also renowned for its Maori art and culture and is an excellent place to experience Maori food, music and hospitality.  Traditional and modern Maori carvings of wood, bone and pounamu (jade) can be bought from local galleries and shops.  The area features over 10 beautiful lakes surrounded by native and exotic forests cut with clear fast flowing rivers offering visitors many outdoor activities including hiking, mountain biking, 4WD tours, rafting, boating and of course, some of the best trout fishing in the world.  Rotorua township has a number of excellent tourist facilities including 'hot pools' (thermal baths), The Agrodome (farm show), Rainbow Springs trout farm, a gondola and luge as well as several thermal valleys.
